II. ERASMUS. MAIN MOTIVATIONS
19 Oct 2011, 01:43
Several years before starting to study at university, I was thinking of participating in an international exchange program, but I knew it was necessary to wait for the right time. Prior to the Erasmus program, I had the opportunity to live a few months in England working and studying English and I also took a summer course in Germany for a month. So, I already had an idea of what to expect from an Erasmus program and this had increased considerably my motivation when I had to decide to apply for international exchange. However, I did not imagine that the Erasmus program would become a completely different experience to the above. One of the main motivations for thinking about the international exchange was the idea of visiting new countries. I have always had a special interest in learning about customs and lifestyles different from those I already know and it increased my desire to spend some time living and Leer el resto »
III. PRE-TRAVEL MOMENTS
19 Oct 2011, 01:41
After applying for the international Exchange, I started researching more about the universities and cities that I had put in the first choices of the document. I spent many hours reading websites and forums where other students shared their knowledge and experiences. The truth is that I loved the idea of spending a period both in Austria and Germany, but the good thing about the IMC Fachhochschule Krems in Austria was that the lessons were taught in English, while the German universities lessons were in German. I already had basic knowledge of German, but the level was not high enough to take classes in that language. That was the reason why the IMC became my favourite choice. I knew that going to the Austrian university would give me the opportunity to improve my English level and at the same time, I could practice my German with the regular students and residents of the city. Weeks went by Leer el resto »
IV. ERASMUS DESTINATION. IMC FACHHOCHSCHULE KREMS. AUSTRIA
19 Oct 2011, 01:39
The incorporation into the host university, the IMC Fachhochschule Krems, was pretty nice. Both students and teachers and other staff were very receptive and kind to each new student. A week before the official opening of the course, the IMC organized a series of introduction activities for all exchange students. These activities took place over several days and had as main objective to familiarize us with the University and its standards and facilities, with our respective careers and their teachers and subjects, and the city, Krems, and its main tourist attractions. On the other hand, all these events did much to "break the ice" and promote communication among all the new students. The first day of activities, we performed a welcome ceremony in the Campus "Piaristengasse". It was the first day I had contact with the facilities in Leer el resto »
V. PERSONAL, CULTURAL AND LINGUISTIC ENRICHMENT
19 Oct 2011, 01:37
Experiencing an international exchange meant much learning. In fact, I would say it was a continuous learning. Different situations, different people and different environments made me open to diversity, respect, tolerance and various values that have made me improve personally. Being alone facing difficult situations or being just you who is in charge of managing and accomplishing absolutely everything you need, produces improvements in the fields of organization, accountability, management, autonomy and allow the student to be better prepared for future responsibilities. Personally, I realized the effort involved in making each of the housework, the fact of recognizing it resulted in the appreciation, respect and gratitude to those who carry out these activities, starting with people in my family and including people who do it for work reasons. Furthermore, meeting people Leer el resto »
VI. ACADEMIC ENRICHMENT
19 Oct 2011, 01:35
The academic enrichment after my international exchange has certainly been abundant. The quality of teaching in Austria accompanied by the professionalism of the teaching staff of the IMC and the academic content of the degree in Tourism, have allowed my professional knowledge to increase significantly. CHOSEN COURSES 2º Semester 1º Semester As shown in the list of taken courses, the subjects chosen in the IMC are related to tourism as they all belonged to the Tourism Management program of the university. Most subjects were chosen because of their similarity in content with those that should have been studied at the URJC in Madrid, but there are others courses that I chose for personal reasons such as Leer el resto »
VII. ERASMUS AND INTERNACIONALIZATION
19 Oct 2011, 01:28
An exchange in another country, as I said before, involves a high degree of internationalization. This process is something that benefits not only the student who decides to make an international exchange, but also generates a benefit to the home institution and country in general due to the increase of highly qualified professionals able to work successfully in a globalized world. Also by providing a better understanding between countries and cultures. As a student of the IMC, I had the opportunity to interact with people from different countries, current students and future professionals with whom there is already a special bond. Thus, the international exchange student returns home with a list of international and highly professional contacts directly related to her or his profession, list that may be useful in their future careers. On the other hand, thanks to Leer el resto »
VIII. FACTS AND ANECDOTES
19 Oct 2011, 01:26
Austria is a country where people have some habits different from the Spanish ones and during my stay in Krems I learned some of them. One of the things that the Austrians are proud of, is its punctuality and it is interesting to discover that the image they have about the Spanish is that we are unpunctual. Unfortunately, sometimes the experience proves they are right. The truth is that for the majority of Austrians, to arrive at the specified time means to be late, they always go to appointments, meetings, classes, etc.. minutes before that time. It is something that I personally had never done but now I have learnt to do it. Another curious fact is that the Austrians (and most northern Europeans) take their shoes off when they get home. At first I was not used to it and sometimes I went inside a house without taking them off, but quickly I learnt to do it and I started doing it in my Leer el resto »
